5 out of 5 stars What a Case!   November 14, 2007

If you need a case that offers great air cooling them look no furhter. I've overclocked my Q6600 from 2.4GHz to 3.2Ghz and the temp runs at 29 degree's C.

There is plenty of space for all your drives and Large GPU cards.

One thing worth noting is the PSU is mounted at the very bottom at the back it can mean the the power cables to the motherboard and other devices might not reach. Check the length of your cables on your PSU, you many need to by a new one with longer cables.

I'm not one of the "oh my god, look at my case" brigade, but I did need something with plenty of fans (can't be bothered buying & fitting a load of them) and that wouldn't sound like an air tunnel; this case fitted the bill.

Positives:
-My old case had two 92mm fans and the CPU idled at 42C. This case has 3 120mm fans and one 200mm blower and my CPU is now sitting at 33C even though the fans are all on the lowest setting (each fan has a low/medium/high speed control).
-While it's not silent, it's not appreciably louder than my old case, if at all. Considering there's 4 fans, it's pretty quiet. Don't expect silence, though.
-Build quality is excellent. I nicked a finger on my old case taking the drives out. No danger of cutting myself with the new case :)
-Power buttons & front ports are well thought out and positioned.
-The HDD cages are rather good. You just haul the cage out, screw in the drives and then put the cage back into the case.
-Thumb screws for the bay cages & case doors; very convenient.

Negatives:
-No removable motherboard tray
-Some spare thumbscrews would've been nice. I've already lost one (grr) and you get a tonne of other screws, so I'd imagine slinging in a couple of extras wouldn't break the bank.
-The floppy drive bay converter isn't terribly intuitive. The instructions simply tell you to insert the drive, add on the faceplate and Bob's your uncle. Unfortunately it's a lot more fiddly than that. The converter is almost symmetrical, but only works one way, plus the faceplate doesn't fit too snugly. It'd be far better if the converter had one distinct end, the instructions were more verbose and the faceplate snapped on to indicate it was secure.
-Cable management could be better; a few bits are a little cramped, too.
-You can buy similarly priced Antec cases that come with several 120mm fans AND a pretty good quality 400-450W PSU.

So it looks nice, runs well and isn't too noisy. The only real downside is the last point; you may well find better value elsewhere from the same manufacturer, especially if you need a PSU with your case. If you want a nice looking case with oodles of fans, then you can't really go wrong with this, though.

Well done to Amazon for the swift and very cheap delivery! Delivery of this item cost me £2 and it arrived the next day (a Saturday, too). Good effort.

5 out of 5 stars Antec 900- high entry level gaming case   November 10, 2007

The Antec nine hundred (900) case is a prime example of quality and value for custom gaming PC cases. From the ground up, this case boasts beautiful edges, lavishes of metal meshing and quirky features such as the cubby-hole on the top directly behind the top mounted I/O usb/audo ports.

Looks aside, the Antec 900 case is a wind tunnel of cooling with one of the largest fans I've experienced to come custom fitted with a case under £100 bob - the 200mm fan. Accompanied by the duel front 120mm fans and the rear exhausts fan this will bring your case temperature down substantially against the conventional ATX fan arrangements.

The inside of the Antec 900 case isn't the best sight I've seen for a gamers case, leads from PSU, optical devices etc are left to dangle even though there are Antec cable ties provided, they don't seem to be too practical. For ATX form-factor MoBos, there is enough room to fit a large CPU/VGA heatsink and fan without touching the case's side panel unless you have fitted an extra 120mm fan to the panel.

All in all, i would recommend this case for any savvy gamer that doesn't require the use of liquid cooling*, for £60-£70 this case is worth every penny in my honest opinion. The only down side i've found using this case is the bottom mounted PSU, you MUST make sure you purchase a PSU with long enough leads otherwise you're going to have to resort to a hamster, wheel and dynamo generator for power.

9/10

*- This case does have space for a small liquid cooling system, and rubber edged holes on the rear of it's case making it possible for a water radiator/tank to be housed outside.

5 out of 5 stars Best case I';ve ever had.   August 23, 2007

This is one superb case for cooling CPU dropped at least 8 degrees C against a standard case with 2 system fans. Details small load 35C processor (AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ - Standard heatsink/cooler) and 41C under heavy use. System Temp 31C constant room temp 24C. The processor was over 50C moderate load (pci tv card) in the old case. I didn't use any extra fans other than those supplied. 2 further can be installed but it is overkill on my system

The other major plus is the audio/usb etc. being on top of the case which is very user friendly and stops accidental damage to front loading cables.

Noise levels are reasonable and all onboard fans have low medium and high settings. It isn't silent but it doesn't sound like a jumbo jet either. Ideal for anyone wanting plenty of air cooling.

Installation was straightforward with disks dvd all installed from the front with plenty of clearance to mainboard for attaching cables. I thought disks were going to be tricky but they turned out to be easy - I only used the middle slot in a bay of 3 for my backup disk. Swiching various OS's Windows/linux I do by caddy which again had plenty of clearance at the back.

I haven't found any fault with it at all hence a five.

I'll be honest, I like to boast a bit when it comes to computers. The Antec Nine Hundred seemed like one more thing which set me above other people. I got this for my birthday because my old case was a bit worn and torn, it was several years old, just a cheap thing which I had based on looks as I was about 13 at the time. Now I have become a serious gamer I needed something to show for it, I needed a case to cool my system. In the end I set my budget to £80 and below. I did my own searching, the Antec caught my eye along with the Lian Li. I got advice of other people and they helped me decide to choose the Antec.

The Antec brags a 200mm top exhaust fan, a real beast for cooling, along with 3 120mm fans, one back exhaust and two at the front taking air in. I had been a bit weary, 4 big fans, the noise? I bought it anyway, and started all fans on low. I hardly know it is there, it makes noise ofcourse, but it is very quiet. Later on I set all fans to high just to see (or hear?) and I was surprised that it wasn't too loud. Too loud to have it like it all the time, but when I was playing a game it could hardly be heard over my speakers. I could feel it more then anything, my legs were cold and my hands too!

The Three Hundred is a very nice looking case, the LEDs, the side window, the power switches, usb ports etc on top. A bits 'n' bobs tray on top and of course, then fans.

Building a PC in it was pretty easy, had to read the instructions to see which order to do it in, I was half sure it would have to go in a particular order otherwise parts would not get in because of others in the way. I think I was right, not sure really, I did it the right way anyway! There is not much space inside though, so if you are a beginner then you may want to look elsewhere unless you are sure of what you are doing. Keep your wires tidy in there because it can get a bit cramped.

It does weigh a bit, so not good for moving about.

Take a look at my images in the customer images gallery :)
